Creating Community where you are
Social Circle Event- February 2025
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about community- creating it, being in it, feeling held by it. My friends Lauren and Tricia and I went out for drinks a few months ago. We spoke about how hard it is to make friends as adults, how lonely it can feel. So, instead of just continuing to talk about it, we challenged ourselves to do something.
We asked our friend Kelly, who owns a boutique hotel and restaurant space in Lenox, Doctor Sax House, if she’d be willing to host a gathering on a Wednesday night in February. She generously said yes.
We had no idea if anyone would come-but after throwing the label ‘Social Circle’ on the event, a quick email invite to people that we knew encouraging them to bring friends and explaining there’s no catch (no cost, no one selling anything), rsvp’s started flying in.
I want to say we were surprised, but we could feel people were craving this. Over 70 people attended- all ages, walks of life, towns and occupations. Lauren ( Berkshire Muse), Tricia ( Tricia McCormack Photography) and I greeted everyone at the door to make sure they felt seen and welcomed. We socialized and made new friends all night. People mentioned how much they got to connect, and felt relieved to not feel pressured to buy anything. The three of us left the night buzzing, grateful, and woke up to an email the next morning with an invitation to host another one at a new venue opening this spring!
All this to say, if you want to create community, do it. Don’t overthink- paralysis by analysis is real. If you want to hear more about our event, email me. Happy to share and help you start your own Social Circle in your town.
We need each other right now. We need to trust our neighbors again. We need some lighthearted joy that doesn’t cost anything but you showing up.
